Position will be responsible for supervising, organizing, and conducting genetic nurseries and field trials at UNL research farm sites. Position will train and organize summer field assistants and conduct field work in the summers (usually about three months on). With initial direction from principal investigator, position independently designs field layouts, planting schedules, pesticide applications, and plan for ongoing maintenance to ensure research goals are met and results are valid. Position strategically deploys limited labor resources to ensure that all projects are maintained to the necessary standards for optimal research success. Will assist with lab management and administrative activities to support extramural/intramural projects. Maintain records and spreadsheets of historical and current year phenotypic data. Bachelor’s degree in agricultural or ecological sciences or related field plus two years of field or research experience in agriculture, ecology, or related disciplines. Previous experience with field work in an agricultural or ecological setting. Ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously; work independently as well as part of a team; strong organizational, time management, and project management skills. Must have knowledge and experience operating and maintaining farm equipment, organizational skills, an understanding of applied field, greenhouse, and lab research, data collection, and manipulation, and capability to learn and follow UNL EHS protocols. Knowledge of computer software to collect and summarize data. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.

Project management and supervisory experience. Previous experience organizing teams of three or more individuals to complete objectives. Previous experience in farming, plant breeding, or plant genetics. Excellent communication skills and ability to interact professionally with all levels of faculty, staff and students across different areas and levels of expertise (both experimental and computational).
