Engineer I – Distribution Planning:
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the close supervision of the Manager-Transmission & Distribution Planning or designee, performs entry-level professional and technical engineering work. This position’s emphasis is to become familiar with all aspects of electric distribution system planning and Southwest Power Pool (SPP) interactions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an educational institution accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is required. Related electric engineering experience is preferred but not required for this entry level position.
Licensing/Certification:
Must have a valid driver’s license. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• General knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Experience with different software applications including Microsoft Office suite.
• Able to plan, organize, and coordinate technical work with a high degree of accuracy.
• Perform limited portions of broader work assignments under the mentorship of an experienced engineer.
• Knowledge of Python programming language.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with employees, vendors, and contractors.

Engineer II – Distribution Planning:
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the general supervision of the Manager-Transmission & Distribution Planning or designee, performs professional and technical engineering work requiring application of standard engineering principles and procedures in electric distribution planning. This position’s emphasis is to increase knowledge and experience beyond the Engineer I position and allow progression towards increasingly autonomous work performance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an educational institution accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is required. Minimum of three years of recent progressively responsible and directly related professional engineering experience or four years of recent related professional engineering experience in another discipline is required. Electric distribution planning experience preferred.
Licensing/Certification:
Certificate of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required. Valid driver’s license (minimum of Class F) required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of and ability to successfully apply, engineering concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Experience with different software applications including Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience with distribution planning software.
• Able to plan, organize, and coordinate technical work with a high degree of accuracy
• Knowledge of NERC reliability standards, SPP studies/processes, EMS/SCADA, Python programming language.
• Ability to:
o Perform work more independently, with less supervision, will be expected as experience is gained.

Engineer III – Distribution Planning:
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the general supervision of the Manager-Transmission Planning & Distribution or designee, performs independent professional and technical engineering work requiring application of standard engineering principles and procedures in electric transmission system planning. This position’s emphasis is to increase knowledge and experience beyond the Engineer II position and allow progression towards increasingly autonomous work performance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an educational institution accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is required. Minimum five years of recent progressively responsible electric distribution planning engineering experience or seven years of recent related professional engineering experience in power system design or operations, protective relaying, or transmission planning is required. Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Engineering Management is preferred.
Licensing/Certification:
The Engineer III must have a valid Missouri Professional Engineer (PE) Registration Certificate; however, engineers with exceptional equivalent engineering experience determined by management may be considered in lieu of PE Registration. Individuals without a PE Registration with exceptional experience may be hired but will be required to obtain a Missouri Professional Engineer Registration Certification within eighteen (18) months to remain at the Engineer III level. Individuals who have PE registration in another state may be hired but will be required to obtain a Missouri Registration Certification within twelve (12) months. A valid driver’s license (minimum of Class F) is required.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the general supervision of the Manager-Transmission & Distribution Planning or designee, performs advanced, independent professional and technical engineering work requiring application of standard engineering principles and procedures in electric distribution system planning. Provides supervision and guidance to other engineering personnel to improve overall capability of distribution planning staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an educational institution accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is required. Minimum eight years of recent progressively responsible electric distribution planning engineering experience or ten years of recent related professional engineering experience in power system design or operations, protective relaying, or transmission planning is required. Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Engineering Management is preferred.
Licensing/Certification:
Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in the State of Missouri is required. Individuals with a PE from another state shall have 12 months to obtain Missouri PE registration to remain at the Engineer IV level. Valid driver’s license is required.

Engineer I-IV – Distribution Planning:
Physical Requirements:
Typically, sedentary work. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communication. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required. Position may require bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Also, may require lifting up to 20 pounds, on occasion.
Working Conditions:
Duties are normally performed in an office with some occasional field trips. Travel outside of Springfield, MO, to SPP or other functions may be required occasionally. May be required to work non-standard hours, holidays, and schedules occasionally.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.
