Position Title: Analytical Systems Research Assistant / Engineer
FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt
The SETI Institute is seeking a highly motivated research assistant with an engineering background to participate in developing new technologies for analytical instrumentation for Space exploration under several research contracts with NASA.
In this FT position, the incumbent will participate in various aspects of our R&D and will have the opportunity to apply his/her broad skillset in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software programming.
As part of a small and dynamic R&D team, the incumbent will perform a wide range of tasks such as: Designing, building, and testing new subsystems and systems, interacting with vendors and collaborators, and participating in the writing of proposals and reports.
BS, MS or PhD in EE, ME, robotics, and Physics.
5+ years of experience in engineering, R&D, applied research.
Strong knowledge and grasp of engineering concepts.
Fluent in SolidWorks 3D modeling and Python programming,
Exceptional technical and problem-solving and reasoning skills and abilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to work autonomously.
Skilled with high precision manual tasks, i.e. electronics, mechanical and optical assemblies.
Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
Sort, file paperwork, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh up to 25 lbs.
Stand, walk, reach or work above shoulders and use a telephone.
