Tenure-Track Positions Available in Architectural Engineering and Construction Engineering
University of Alabama
The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at The University of Alabama invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions. Architectural Engineering. Areas of interest include innovative building envelopes and materials; structural engineering systems; lighting and daylighting; building electrical power and distribution; building mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP)systems; building controls; indoor environmental modeling/measurements; acoustics; fire detection/suppression; and energy efficient building design and operation. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in architectural engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field, and at least one degree in architectural engineering. Construction Engineering. Areas of interest include development and application of emerging technologies (e.g., AI, automation and robotics, drone, modeling, and virtualization) for building design and construction; infrastructure construction and materials (e.g., concrete, steel, wood and composite), or construction support operations (e.g., productivity, scheduling, estimating, quality, and safety); finance and automation of constructed facilities; construction for sustainability and resiliency; and design and performance of temporary structures. Applicants with a broad background in fields such as sensors, robotics, intelligent control, data analytics, AI, and machine learning, applied to areas in the construction engineering domain are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have an earned doctorate in construction engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field.
These positions will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct impactful research, and participate in outreach and service activities. The development and sustainment of a funded research program is expected. Both basic and applied research are valued.
The department offers ABET/EAC accredited Bachelor of Science degrees in civil engineering, construction engineering, architectural engineering, and environmental engineering. The department also offers six minors in the areas of architectural, civil, construction, environmental and water resources, transportation, and structural engineering. At the graduate level, the department offers the Masters of Science in civil engineering, the Masters of Science in environmental engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering. The department also supports two dual degree graduate programs, a joint MSCE/MBA and a joint MSCE/JD.
The department is benefitting from the College and University’s rapid expansion in facilities including construction of a four-building$350 million Engineering and Science Complex. These buildings provide over 900,000 square feet of state-of-the-art research and instructional space, the majority of which is devoted to the College of Engineering. Successful candidates will work within an integrated research communitythat includes a variety of on-campus research centers such as the Alabama Transportation Institute, the Alabama Water Institute, and the Center for Sustainable Infrastructure.
Candidates will be appointed at the assistant professor level. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit a resume, transcripts, statement of research and teaching interests, and a list of at least three references as soon as possible. Professional engineering registration or the ability to become a registered professional engineer is desired. Quality and impact of research will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in a n integrated, multidisciplinary and diverse environment.
Applications will be accepted and reviewed continuously until the positions are filled. A start date of August 2021 is anticipated. Electronic submission of application materials is required.
