The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CVEEN) at the University of Utah invites applications for a unique 12-month, non-tenure-track lecturer position to join our growing international team beginning by August 1, 2020. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses at the University of Utah Asia Campus in Songdo, Incheon South Korea (see details of UAC at https://songdo.utah.edu/). The UAC is a global campus focusing on instruction in English to predominately Asian and other CVEEN students coming from the Salt Lake City Campus. As a condition of employment, a successful candidate must be able to get a valid work visa for South Korea. The teaching style and methodologies of the successful candidate will be consistent with the general teaching guidelines of the CVEEN faculty in SLC, bringing an international perspective to the higher education provided in Korea.
This position is open to applications at all academic ranks. We anticipate an initial two-year appointment with renewable annual appointments at the UAC upon satisfactory performance reviews. Salary is commensurate with experience. All full-time employees are provided a health benefit plan. Housing is provided for UAC employees with an E-1 or a F-4 Korean Visa. Some personal and professional travel expenses are provided by the UAC. The successful candidate will teach seven core courses in the undergraduate program per year typically in a 3-4, 4-3 or 3-3-1 with the 1 being taught during summer or winter break. Initial offerings may include CVEEN 2010 Statics, CVEEN 2140 Strength of Materials, CVEEN 2410 Geomatics, CVEEN 3210 Structural Loads, CVEEN 3520 Transportation, and ME 2030 Dynamics (https://catalog.utah.edu/#/courses). Additional course development and instruction may be required in future years. Also, the successful candidate will be required to assist in recruiting efforts while at the UAC and mentor undergraduate civil & environmental engineering majors.
Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in civil, mechanical, or similar engineering area, and some professional engineering experience. It is desirable that the candidate have some experience in the development of instructional and engineering curriculum, preparing and teaching hands-on classroom and laboratory experiences and assessing student outcomes using ABET accreditation criteria.
