Supervise and coordinate activities of power generation, transmission and distribution for the City and Borough of Sitka. 36 MW hydroelectric, 27 MW diesel generation, 24.5 MW peak load; 69 kV transmission; distribution to pop. 9000, 3 major seafood freezer plants, major hydro expansion completed December 2014. Direct supervision is exercised over the work of all Electric Utility Department employees including FT staff of 30+, 25-member IBEW unit. Leadership, long-range vision, FERC licensing experience desired.
The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Administrator but extensive leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Performs duties of other employees in the Electric Department as required or assigned by supervisory personnel. Maintain effective working relationships with other Department and City employees, Assembly members, contractors, consultants, other utilities, State and Federal representatives and the public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment however work may be performed in an outdoor environment which may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards in which the employee is subject to potential personal danger. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of electric generation, transmission, distribution, operation and maintenance principles, practices and procedures;
Comprehensive knowledge of effective management principles;
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical engineering;
Ability to prepare contract specifications and scope of work descriptions;
Ability to organize and direct the activities of professional, technical and clerical staff;
