How would you like to provide leadership and management of the Office of Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV-X) projects? This position supervises the project management team and provides direct oversight and support for scoping, scheduling, budgeting, financial planning, risk management, change management and communications. Other duties include:
Supports project managers in developing and executing public and industry engagement plans for CAV-X projects.
Supports implementing CAV and ITS statewide initiatives related to policy, planning, and technology (e.g. MnDOT Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) Strategic Plan,Governor’s Advisory Council, and other MnDOT plans).
Supports research activities, including MnROAD research, academic and industry partnerships.
This position also requires occasional travel outside the state and within Minnesota to lead projects, facilitate meetings and present on agency programs.

The ideal candidate has excellent written and verbal communication skills showing the ability to clearly and concisely explain complex projects and present on CAV and ITS topics to a wide variety of stakeholders. Ideal candidates are able to manage up and down the organization to ensure all levels of leadership and staff understand project priorities and goals. Ideal candidates have a strong contract negotiations and conflict resolution skills with the ability to build strong consultant and industry relationships while also managing a team by providing direct feedback, training and coaching. This position helps to manage a dynamic budget and understands MnDOT finance and budgeting processes to ensure strong and timely fiscal management.

Applicants must be licensed as a professional engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (Board) or have a license in another jurisdiction and have the ability to obtain licensure in Minnesota.
Three years of transportation engineering experience (post-registration) at the Engineer Senior level or equivalent with a thorough knowledge of:
Project management principles, practices, techniques and tools including but not limited to:
The ability to effectively identify, analyze and mitigate risks
The ability to define project goals, scopes of work, tasks, deliverables, resource requirements and timelines
Effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to monitor numerous projects through planning, prioritizing and delegating
Project evaluations, progress reporting and performance monitoring
Managing complex, cross-organizational technical projects including projects with external stakeholders at all levels of government
Experience with contracting procedures including writing and negotiating scopes with consultants, and a thorough understanding of state and federal procurement processes
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, including writing concise project one-pagers, presenting agency programs and facilitating meetings
Experiences and knowledge of the principles of effective supervision, employee engagement, coaching, and direct feedback
Experience with developing and implementing innovation solutions
Demonstrated ability to solve problems with little to no guidance, standards or examples
Knowledge of systems engineering concepts including concept of operations, system requirements, design, verification and validation and operations and maintenance
Ability to occasionally travel outside the state and within Minnesota
