The City of Grand Rapids is conducting a national search to attract a highly qualified candidate for City Engineer. The ideal person will be highly strategic and accomplished at articulating engineering’s impact on an array of community issues in public settings and be capable of providing inspirational leadership. The next City Engineer will lead a 40-person engineering team to deliver engineering services and projects within schedule and budget. The next Engineer will be able to create long-lasting and visionary vital streets and advance the City’s Strategic Plan priorities for Mobility. The City Engineer will also manage the City’s Asset Management Program, develop the Capital Improvement Plan, prepare Request for Qualifications/Proposals on large City initiatives, and minimize the potential risk exposure from capital infrastructure.
A proven track record of working effectively in a culturally and ethnically diverse community while directing large-scale engineering projects with a $21 million budget.
A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Structural or transportation engineering proficiency
A minimum of at least 12 years progressively responsible engineering experience
