Arlington County's Department of Environmental Services is seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer to work within their Engineering Bureau. The Bridge Engineer is responsible for asset management of the County's 35 bridges including oversight of inspections as well as implementation of maintenance and repairs. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for bridge capital projects such as major rehabilitations. Most of the inspection and design work is accomplished using consultants.
Specific duties include:
Procuring bridge inspection and bridge capital projects design consultants and overseeing their biennial bridge inspections;
Developing a long-range Bridge Maintenance and Repair Program as well as a prioritized budget-constrained Annual Maintenance and Repairs Work Plan;
Developing bridge component of Capital Improvement Plan including planning-level cost estimates;
Leading the scoping of bridge capital projects including major rehabilitations to extend the life of bridges as well as to enhance the multimodal functionality;
Directing consultant development of plans, specifications, estimates, and bid documents for construction;
Reviewing consultant work products to ensure that they are accurate and complete and effectively meet the County's goals; and
Procuring construction contractors to perform Annual Maintenance and Repair Work Plan and bridge capital projects construction.
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus significant experience in bridge inspection, asset management of bridges, bridge rehabilitation design, and/or project management of bridge rehabilitation capital projects.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or a state with reciprocity;
Experience as an NBIS Program Manager;
Experience as an NBIS Team Leader; and/or
Successful completion of an FHWA approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course.
