Position Summary: The Software Engineer is responsible for, designing, developing, programming, implementing, testing, and installing the controls architecture for automated machines. Analyzing the needs of customers, program systems as well as various sub-systems as necessary to meet and exceed customer specifications and certification requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES include but are not limited to:
Design the software control systems for new and existing products according to specifications and development program timelines. This can include reports, design reviews, documentation packages, pre-production builds and transfer to production on various automated and semi-automated machines. Develop and validate modular, well documented code required to implement the same.
Integrate various sub-system software interfaces such as vision inspection, ink or laser marking, robotic path motions and electrical testers to develop a single cohesive solution.
Test, maintain and modify existing software systems, identify, understand and troubleshoot operational and functional issues providing resolution in a timely manner.
Resolve operational problems related to projects, and minimize delays. Generate detailed specifications, functional requirements, test plans, protocols, and procedures.
Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant national and international regulations, quality standards, and customer requirements.
Interpret requirements, identify and address design parameters and potential problems to ensure solutions are implemented accurately and within budget.
Oversee workflow and support internal and external resources to ensure timely delivery of project, expected quality, and allotted budget.
Assist with field service support, traveling to customer sites as needed, working with all levels of customer personnel, training internal and external customers on using and maintaining systems.
Collaborate with all departments to continually improve and update systems software and design process improvements.
Assist other departments with software-specific needs.
Learn and support new products and technologies.
Proactive communication skills across a variety of mediums in a collaborative manner across multiple office locations including situations where work is fast-paced and deadline-oriented
Results oriented and innovative with excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure with deadlines
Self –directed with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to visualize a process or system from concept to development
Minimum 4-year BSEE or BSCS Degree
Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial motion control and systems environment
Demonstrated proficiency in Ladder Logic, Assembly, Structured Text, Visual Basic, and C
Experience in process control and automation with exposure to robotics and vision guided systems controls
Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of HMI/PLC based control systems
Ability to develop clear, intuitive and logical graphical interfaces
Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with ability to understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Proficient in standard software applications including MS Office, project management software and web-based meetings/communication software
Programming and debugging embedded systems (PIC Microcontrollers preferred).
PLCs and motion controls.
Working knowledge of RSLOGIX 5000.
Machine level troubleshooting and debugging.
Industrial HMI design (Allen Bradley preferred).
Embedded system design, CCW (Connected Components Workbench)
Physical & Travel Requirements
Ability to work in both an office and manufacturing environment
Ability to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
