The San Mateo County Transit District seeks an Engineer III (Third-Party) to be responsible for coordinating construction and encroachment activities with federal, state, and local public works agencies, regulators, contractors and third parties for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain).
The Engineer III will ensure all required right of entry and other agreements are in place prior to access to Caltrain property by third-parties, ensure third-party designs that impact our Right of Way (ROW) are in compliance with all Caltrain engineering design criteria and specifications, ensure all third-party personnel undergo Caltrain safety training before being allowed entry onto the Caltrain right of way, and coordinate with other agencies such as: California Public Utilities Commission, the Federal Railroad
Administration, Union Pacific Railroad and other interested parties pertaining to third-party project issues.
S/he will also conduct project meetings and field meetings with third-parties, perform site inspections relating to third-party projects, which may include nighttime and weekend work, conduct design reviews by appropriate subject matter experts in the Engineering and Maintenance Department to ensure third-party designs are in compliance with all Caltrain standards, and prepare service agreements and develop cost estimate for engineering support and track protection, providing budget updates as needed. Other duties include overseeing and facilitating third party ROW access approval process and assisting in developing work plans and contract documents on third-party projects, as well as collaborating with Rail Operations, Capital Projects, Real Estate, Safety, Construction Management and other Caltrain departments to achieve department goals.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or related field with five years of engineering experience including railroad, utility, or public works. Must possess effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Professional Engineering License is desirable. Must possess a valid California driver license with safe driving record.
