Reporting directly to the Head of Content Development the MasterSpec Electrical Engineer, will be the main master guide specification writer and subject matter expert for all content contained within Divisions 26, 27, and 28 (Electrical, Communications, and Electronic Safety and Security) of MasterFormat. In this capacity, the candidate will have the following responsibilities Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
Write nonproprietary master specifications according to MASTERSPEC standards and conventions, and following CSI specification writing principles and formats
Drive and document technical research for development of specification sections, including: survey of product literature, manufacturers' web sites, codes, standards, trade association and professional society publications, and other reference materials.
Write and update specifications based on technical research.
Respond to technical and editorial reviews and questions, and provide rationale for rejecting comments and answer questions.
Make presentations and write thought leadership pieces related to the subject matter of assigned specification sections.
Manage electrical, communications, and other consultants who are involved in the creation and updating of MASTERSPEC.
Help guide evaluation and final disposition of requests from building product manufacturers based on strong technical argument grounded on the technical leadership in area of expertise.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
5+ years' experience writing construction specifications in the office of a design professional, specification consultant, or an equivalent amount of experience in engineering consulting.
Registered Professional Engineer
Strong communication skills written and oral
Experience dealing with various clients and fostering a positive relationship with these parties
