Fundamentally, the PSM is the face of the company in the field and must be professional, positive, credible and ethical. A Product Sales Manager (“PSM”) is responsible for meeting sales goals for the Seametrics Environmental Sensor product line. The sales channel at this point is comprised of independent distributors. There is opportunity in exploring and expanding the existing distribution. The PSM will manage all distribution for the product offering in the region with the goal of building customer loyalty and satisfaction.
The PSM is expected to be a technical expert on the product while also understanding how customers will use the products in the field and the value they expect to gain from the product. As the expert in the field, the PSM provides most training to the sales channel.
The PSM serves as the eyes and ears of Seametrics in the field. Industry trends, customer trends, competitive information, are all valuable to the company and must be communicated.
The PSM is part of a team. Working effectively with the inside staff and the balance of the Seametrics staff is essential to success.
The PSM may also manage direct sales people or provide direct sales support for OEM type customers that require a more direct relationship with the factory. In addition, the PSM may become involved in high profile field service issues either in a direct or supporting role.
Key Responsibilities (partial list): ?Through training, consistent communication, and joint travel, develops and manages the sales channel to increasingly higher levels of sales. ?Jointly develops and executes business plans with channel partners. ?Builds customer satisfaction in the territory. ?PSMs are product and application experts. New applications are communicated through the organization. ?Works effectively with the factory to make sure customer needs are being met. ?Maintains standard Seametrics price and discount levels and makes suggestions for special offers where necessary to secure highly competitive or strategic business. ?Supports national and regional trade shows and factory training events as required. ?Provides direct support for high profile projects and technical service issues as required. ?Maintains up to date reporting of sales activities and status of large projects through the CRM system. ?Provides feedback to management regarding industry trends and customers’ requirements. Active in organizations that specifically support primary industries. ?Provides market intelligence in the form of trip reports. ?Stays current on competitors’ offerings and contributes to competitive analysis by product. ?Provides meaningful input on the overall company sales strategy, product development and marketing.
Position Requirements ?The PSM is most valuable when working with the sales channel to develop sales. As a result, significant travel is required. A typical equation for success would be 50% planned travel in the region, with the balance of time allocated to follow-up from previous trips, planning of future trips, corporate support, and having room for some emergency travel as well. ?High energy, ability to work independently. ?BS or BA degree. An BS degree in a technical field is preferred. Additional education in marketing and business is also preferred. Specific experience with hydrology is particularly helpful. ?Excellent written and oral communication skills. ?A minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental product sales, service, marketing or engineering
