B&S Construction Engineer will manage construction projects in the Southern Region. The scope of this work will include, but not be limited to managing all phases of construction contracts, from pre-bid meeting to final acceptance of work, tracking project timelines, interfacing with bridge design engineers, and tracking project expenses. Overall responsibilities of this position will focus on project efficiencies, budget constraints, and safety on the work site.
Prepare contract documents and specifications for assigned projects.
Ensure appropriate solution constructability, accuracy and completeness with sound engineering practice, laws and permits.
Minimize capital expenditures through effective tendering practices.
Work closely with local supervisors, bridge design personnel, and managers on projects that fall under their jurisdiction.
Identify material, manpower, and design short falls in projects, make corrections to allow for efficient installation and budget commitments.
Budget management on construction projects.
Coordinate contract construction activities with transportation and engineering operations.
As assigned by Sr Manager Bridges & Structures.
Maybe required to work on varying shifts to cover operations that run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Work is primarily in an office environment, however there is significant travel requirements and on-site visits, which maybe in varying types of weather and environmental conditions.
Work shifts will normally be M- Fri, but may vary and will include weekdays, weekends and holidays.
Will be on call based on territory requirements.
Significant travel requirements (up to 50% of the time), which include overnight stays away from home based on current project requirements.
Maybe required to respond to emergency situations.
Bachelor Degree in Engineering.
General knowledge of railroad bridge engineering and AREMA Chapters 7, 8 and 15
Valid driver's license.
A minimum of 5 years of bridge construction experience.
Comprehensive working knowledge of project management. Applicable regulatory requirements, railway operating practices.
Good computer skills; especially working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word). Preferred
