This Senior Engineer position will manage the development of high priority recycled and purified water projects in the Recycled and Purified Water Program Unit. This position will support Board direction to develop and expand recycled water projects to help reach our objective of at least 10% of annual recycled water production as a percentage of total County water demands by 2025. This position serves as a technical lead regarding engineering, treatment, and water quality work and is in charge for part of the unit's external collaboration and cooperation efforts including various types of complex agreements. This position will be required to develop and review technical documents, plans, maps, high level cost estimates, and also manage consultant and cost-sharing contracts/agreements.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversee the RO Concentrate Management Project: Oversee and coordinate of the following work; manage the Consultant contract, technical lead for the staff, stakeholder meetings, workshops, review of all reports, TMs, work products provided by the Consultant, preparation of the draft report for the Independent Advisory Panel (IAP) review and comments, and other research project for use of Wetlands to treat RO concentrate.
Program Development and Management: Review Recycled Water strategies for monthly meetings and assist with Recycled Water Strategies Development and oversee the following activities with City of San José on recycled and purified water projects; lead the Board Recycled Water Policy Advisory Committee meetings, implementation of integration, ground lease, and Silver Creek agreement, collaborate effort for developing agreement(s) with the City of San José, assist in implementation of South Bay Water Recycling Master Plan projects, assist in coordination in any operational issues related to Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center.
Direct Potable Reuse (DPR) Analysis and Implementation: Technical lead for Direct Potable Reuse development and implementation; lead development of a permitting framework for potable reuse projects; act as a technical liaison on the National Water Research Institute DPR Coalition.
Potable Reuse Research, Piloting and Testing Lead: Research staff to monitor and coordinate all research projects with Universities, agencies (WateReuse and Water Environment and Reuse Foundation), consultants, and researchers, review research results, abstracts, and all reports generated by the research.
One year of professional engineering experience at a level equivalent to that of the Associate Engineer classification (total of five years of experience).
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in an engineering discipline.
Possession of a valid California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate with two years of associated paraprofessional engineering experience.
License or Certificate:
Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California within the assigned area of responsibility.
