Although headquartered in Europe, the Americas region is a significant contributor to total revenue. The Americas headquarters is located in the Mid-Atlantic region and the Americas subsidiary includes its own manufacturing, sales & marketing and R&D functions.

While its traditional offerings continue to enjoy wide acceptance and support in the marketplaces, it will rely on new offerings to truly set it apart from its competitors and continue to raise the bar for industry standards in research, development and technical support.
Reporting to the President of the Americas, the Director of Research, Development and Quality Assurance will be a key member the Americas leadership team as well as a contributor to the global organization. Major responsibilities will include leadership/management of the lab chemists and technicians, the localization of formulas developed by other R&D units, localizing raw materials and building relationships with suppliers, working with the marketing department to create new formulations tailored for the Americas markets and, finally, quality assurance. The company is renowned for its attention to quality and employs Quality Assurance personnel at its plants throughout the Americas; it will be the responsibility of the Director, R&D and Quality Assurance to ensure consistent and scalable manufacturing methods that don’t compromise the company’s commitment to quality.
Globally, this position will interact with other R&D leaders working within other subsidiaries of the organization. It is expected that the individual occupying this role will contribute ideas to the global organization and, in time, come to be regarded as a top R&D leader within the company.
Manage a group of chemists and technicians pursuing technology platforms of short and long term interest to the company.
Manage the Team responsible for Quality Assurance and quality control with the aim of maintaining product quality to company quality standards.
Responsible for the localization of existing formulas and for the development of new formulas as part of the NPI (New Product Introduction) and Stagegate process.
Participate in developing the overall strategic plan for the Americas.
Accountable for other R&D activities, such as cost reduction initiatives and testing activities to support new business initiatives.
Oversees Chemical Hygiene Plan and ensures compliance.
Maintains liaison(s) with other subsidiaries, as appropriate.
Accountable for competitive benchmarking and testing activities, along with technical services.
Responsible for employee training and development, objective setting, performance appraisals, salary administration, and annual R&D expense budget.
A strong understanding of chemistry with an emphasis on cementitious materials/concrete/building materials is required.
Five (5) years supervisory experience and proven leadership skills.
The ability to manage a group of chemists and technicians locally and remotely.
Ability to establish credibility with scientists and with other internal/external customers.
Understanding and experience in managing budgets.
Understanding and ability to evaluate standard costing, margins, and the relationship of manufacturing to R&D.
Proven track record of R&D accomplishments that have led to successful commercial products.
Skilled at managing the market-need/technical-solution linkage.
Good financial management, change management, and conflict management skills are required.
Desire to "lead" the industry with an innovative, forward-thinking Research and Development team.
Energetic, creative, collaborative with an analytical orientation.
Bachelor's degree in appropriate technical discipline. Master's preferred but not required.
