The City of Goleta (population 30,000) is located on the beautiful Santa Barbara County coast, ten miles west of Santa Barbara. The City was recently rated by CNN’s Money as one of the country’s “Best Places to Live.” Goleta is located adjacent to University of California, Santa Barbara, home to six Nobel Prize winners and one of the leading research universities in America. The community hosts a number of high technology businesses specializing in aerospace, nanotechnology, environmental science, biochemistry, and information technology.
The City is seeking a strong engineering professional to serve as the primary assistant to the Public Works Director. The Deputy Director will lead the Capital Projects and Engineering Divisions, with an emphasis on ensuring the timely completion of capital projects within established budgets.
The Goleta Public Works Department employs 23 full time employees and has an operating budget of $8.1 million. Goleta has an aggressive five-year Capital Improvement program encompassing 55 projects, with a total budget of $139 million.
Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering. Top candidates will have ten years of increasingly responsible experience in public works engineering and construction management. The successful candidate should have at least three years. of supervisory experience.
The salary range for the Deputy Public Works Director is $129,847 to $165,734.
