CLEVELAND CLINIC DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING FACULTY POSITION IN JOINT KINEMATICS RESEARCH
Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) seeks a faculty member to lead a collaborative research program in joint kinematics, housed in BME within the Lerner Research Institute. The individual will build an interdisciplinary research program among BME researchers as well as clinician-investigators in the Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute and Imaging Institute.
The musculoskeletal research community at Cleveland Clinic includes over 50 researchers across multiple institutes. Their diverse research efforts are supported by shared core facilities and specialized state-of-the-art motion analysis laboratories, advanced robotics testing of musculoskeletal joints, wet and dry laboratory space, access to a wide array of standard mechanical and biological testing equipment, computational modeling and simulation in biomechanics, medical imaging facilities, and a system-wide prospective surgical outcomes cohort. Exceptional collaboration possibilities between laboratory and clinical scientists, and access to large patient populations within the region, provide a unique opportunity for translational investigations.
We desire an individual with proven skills in grant funding, leadership, organization, innovation, and interpersonal communication. Competitive candidates will hold a doctorate in engineering, biomedical engineering, physics or a related scientific discipline, have a solid publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, have established or high potential for funding, and be experienced in translational research. The individual is expected to establish and maintain an independent research program and to mentor junior investigators and students. Although not required, teaching opportunities are available through our Department of Molecular Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Collaborations and appointments are possible at one of our neighboring academic (Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, Kent State University, University of Akron) or federal institutions (Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, NASA Glenn Research Center). Applications will be considered at all faculty ranks (Assistant, Associate, and Full).
A generous five-year start-up package is available to support this recruitment, including financial resources for salary, operations, and equipment commensurate with the rank of the individual. Ongoing financial support and commitment beyond the start-up period is provided for all Lerner faculty. The opportunity for adding biplanar radiography capability exists, as does an opportunity for collaborating in the leadership of a clinical gait laboratory within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
