This exciting position will lead the delivery of the $3.3 billion Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion and be charged with overall responsibility for the successful planning, execution, oversight and completion of the project from procurement through construction.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the third largest system of its kind in the United States and employer to over 7,700 individuals, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Project Manager to oversee the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion project.
VDOT is responsible for building, maintaining and operating the Commonwealth of Virginia’s roads, bridges and tunnels and also provides funding for airports, seaports, rail and public transportation. For Fiscal Year 2017, VDOT is operating with a budget of more than $5.3 billion. VDOT’s coastal Hampton Roads District is responsible for over 10,000 total lane-miles in the southeastern corner of the state. With the Port of Virginia and the world’s largest naval base located within the District’s boundaries, Hampton Roads transportation is distinctly flavored by numerous river and harbor crossings.
Requirements for the position include significant experience as a Project or Program Director for a globally recognized engineering/construction firm or infrastructure agency as well as an advanced degree. It is also desired for candidates to possess progressively responsible experience in construction-phase management of major transportation infrastructure and demonstrated success in on-time and on-budget delivery. Qualified candidates will possess experience in design and/or construction of roadway tunnels, experience with both bored and/or immersed-tube tunneling, and experience constructing major highway project with traffic volumes above 100,000 vehicles per day. The successful candidate will have knowledge of relevant transportation laws, policies, and planning regulations along with knowledge of public-policy implications of transportation issues. They will be skilled in maneuvering through complex political situations with sensitivity to how people and organizations function, as well as negotiating and leading discussions to reach positive outcomes. Additional Salary Information: The salary for the position is negotiable dependent upon candidate education and experience.
